Take a look at our challenge route

    • Duration: 4 hours

    • Elevation Gain: +600m / +1969ft
After meeting in Bourg St Maurice at 10:30 AM, the last major town before the Alps, the journey begins with a transfer to Ste Foy en Tarentaise, a charming French ski town. From there, we ascend through lush pastures towards the overnight refuge, Refuge de l'Archeboc (2030m/6660ft). Those seeking a bit more adventure may have the chance to take a longer route or even enjoy a swim at an alpine lake. The refuge offers stunning views of the surrounding peaks and, depending on energy availability, you may have access to cold showers.

    • Duration: 6 hours

    • Elevation Gain: +1200m / +3937ft

    • Elevation Loss: -850m / -2789ft
After breakfast, the challenge continues with an ascent to the Col du Mont (2636m/8648ft), marking the border crossing from France to Italy. Once in Italy, the Gran Paradiso National Park greets you with some of the most breathtaking views. The pass offers spectacular sights of Pointe d’Archeboc (3272m/10,734ft) and Becca du Lac (3405m/11,171ft) as you make your way to the Refuge de l’Epée (2370m/7776ft) for your overnight stay.

    • Elevation Gain: +798m / +2617ft

    • Elevation Loss: -1340m / -4395ft
Day 3 presents a beautiful trek across the flanks of Grande Rousse (3607m/11,834ft), a mountain that resembles a leaning Matterhorn. The route takes you through picturesque marshlands, farmlands, and larch forests, with views of the majestic Alps. Along the way, there’s a good chance to spot local wildlife like the Ibex. The destination for the day is Refuge Bezzi (2284m/7493ft), which features solar-heated showers.

    • Duration: 5.5 hours

    • Elevation Gain: +750m / +2460ft

    • Elevation Loss: -1350m / -4430ft
On Day 4, the challenge takes you to the snow-covered Col Bassac Déré (3082m/10,112ft). This pass offers incredible views of glaciers and distant peaks like Mont Blanc. You’ll descend through rocky landscapes, where sightings of Ibex are common, and eventually reach Refuge Benevolo (2285m/7497ft) for the night.

    • Duration: 5-6 hours

    • Elevation Gain: +738m / +2421ft to +900m / +2297ft

    • Elevation Loss: -491m / -1607ft to -630m / -2067ft
Today’s hike offers two routes: the challenging ascent to Col Basei (3176m/10,420ft) or the slightly easier Col Rosset (3023m/9918ft). Both trails provide stunning alpine views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks. After the ascent, you’ll make your way down to Rifugio Savoya (2534m/8314ft), where you can enjoy traditional Italian hospitality.

Day 6 involves descending through the beautiful valley of Piano del Nivolet, with Mont Taou Blanc towering above. The day includes an ascent to Gran Collet Pass (2832m/9291ft), where stunning views of Gran Paradiso await. Afterward, you’ll descend to Rifugio Vittorio Emmanuele II (2735m/8973ft), a historic mountain refuge dating back to 1884.

    • Duration: 4 hours

    • Elevation Gain: +300m / +984ft

    • Elevation Loss: -1165m / -3822ft

    • The final day begins at the Victor Emmanuel II Hut (2,732m), the iconic alpine base for summiting Gran Paradiso (4061m) — the highest peak entirely within Italy. With crampons on and ice axe in hand, you'll set off early for this rewarding high-altitude climb. Though physically demanding, the ascent is non-technical and suited to experienced trekkers. After summiting, the descent leads through rocky alpine valleys and across mountain streams. There may be a visit to Rifugio Chabod (2750m/9022ft)before continuing down through forests and farmlands, eventually reaching the roadhead at Pont (Valsavarenche). From here, a transfer will take you back to Bourg Saint Maurice, concluding the challenge around 5 PM.
